Deadlines and timing
UK grants closing this month: how to find them and apply in time
138 UK grant schemes had October 2026 deadlines and 121 close in November 2026. How to see what closes when, decide which are worth a late application, and avoid the traps.
Part of the complete guide: How to find grants for a UK charity: the complete guide
Finding UK grants closing this month is a filtering problem, not a searching problem: on 26 October 2026 OpenGrant listed 138 schemes with October deadlines and 121 with November deadlines, and the question is which of them you can honestly apply to in the time left. This guide explains where to see what closes when, how to triage a late application, what the funders themselves say about rushing, and why rolling programmes often beat a sprint.
Where to see what closes when
OpenGrant publishes a page for every deadline month, generated from verified scheme records. On 26 October 2026 the counts were:
- October 2026: 138 schemes, soonest first.
- November 2026: 121 schemes.
- December 2026: 65 schemes.
- Rolling and undated: 584 rolling schemes or schemes without a published deadline. Check each status and the funder’s guidance; the group can include forthcoming schemes.
Each entry shows the funder, the closing date and time in UK time, the award band, where it applies and a link to the funder's guidance. The counts fall as the month progresses and rise as new rounds are verified, so treat them as a snapshot. The filtered browse pages carry the same deadline logic for a narrower audience: the London charities page showed 34 schemes closing within 30 days on 26 October 2026, with the soonest on 28 October, and the schools page showed 9. The grants for schools guide walks through those.
Other free sources of deadline information are narrower. NICVA's GrantTracker sends reminders at nine, three and one weeks for schemes you track in Northern Ireland. The National Lottery Community Fund's programme finder shows status and decision time but, for its rolling programmes, no closing date. Funder sites are the final authority, and the time matters: many portals close at noon or 5pm, not midnight.
What closes in November 2026
A sample from the November page, with each record linked, shows the range of what a single month holds:
- Liverpool Bay CCS Limited Community Benefit Fund, Community Foundation Wales, up to £20,000, 2 November at noon.
- Nature Networks Fund (round six), National Lottery Heritage Fund, £250,000 to £1 million for Wales, 3 November at noon.
- Economic Justice, City Bridge Foundation, London, 3 November at noon.
- FOAK Builder: Programme Entry Expression of Interest, Innovate UK, 5 November at 11am.
- Money Guiders Grant Fund 2026/27, Money and Pensions Service, £5,000 to £25,000, 10 November at 5pm.
- Gwent High Sheriff's Community Fund, Community Foundation Wales, up to £7,500, 16 November at noon.
- Enterprise Gateway, Henry Smith Foundation, £500,000 to £1.5 million for intermediary organisations, expressions of interest by 25 November at 5pm. See how to apply to the Henry Smith Foundation.
The Gannochy Trust's Youth Panel Fund also closes on 6 November 2026 for Perth and Kinross charities, though its scheme record was not listed at the time of writing; our Gannochy guide has the dates.
Triage a late application in ten minutes
Before you open a form, answer five questions from the funder's guidance, not from the summary:
- Does your organisation type qualify, including any register, income or age-of-organisation rule?
- Is your area covered, at the level the funder means (a Wales-only fund is not open to a Bristol group)?
- Does the work fit the stated purpose, and is it the kind of cost they pay for?
- Do you have the documents the portal asks for: governing document, accounts, bank statement, safeguarding policy where relevant?
- Can you deliver and report in their timetable, and have you not already started spending? See can you apply for a grant after starting a project.
A "no" or "unclear" to any of these is a reason to stop. Funders describe the cost of ignoring this in their own words: the National Lottery Community Fund says it funds "around 1 in 3 applications" and asks applicants to wait for a decision before spending; Somerset Community Foundation says it can support "around half" of Wessex Water Community Fund applicants, and that applications for work with few people are less likely to succeed. A late application that fails also costs you a re-application gap at funders that impose one, such as the Henry Smith Foundation's 12 months for declined Clergy applicants.
What funders say about rushing
The advice is consistent across sectors. The National Lottery Community Fund asks for applications at least 16 weeks before the money is needed and runs checks on your information. Esmée Fairbairn Foundation's whole process takes six to eight months. Innovate UK competitions run through the Innovation Funding Service with fixed closing times, usually 11am, and no extensions. Community foundations assess, then take recommendations to a panel, so a thin application is visible at two stages. The how to write a grant application guide is written for the case where you do have time; if you do not, the strongest move is often to apply to a rolling programme instead.
Rolling programmes and schemes without a published deadline
On 26 October 2026, the rolling and undated directory listed 584 schemes. That count includes schemes without a published deadline and can include forthcoming programmes; it is not a count of grants accepting applications at any time. Several of the largest funders have no deadline at all:
- National Lottery Awards for All England: £300 to £20,000, decision in 16 weeks.
- Garfield Weston Foundation: "We accept applications all year round."
- Esmée Fairbairn Foundation: rolling, £30,000 minimum.
- Quartet Community Foundation's Express Grant Programme and many other community foundation funds.
For these, "closing this month" is the wrong frame; the right one is "when will we be ready?". Use the rolling and undated page as a second list beside the monthly one.
Build the habit, not the sprint
The organisations that stop missing deadlines keep a 12-month calendar of the rounds that fit them, with the opening date as well as the closing date, because many portals open only two or three months before they close (the Gannochy Trust opens its portal on 1 November 2026 for an 8 January 2027 deadline). A free OpenGrant account lets you save a weekly alert for your filters and add scheme deadlines to a calendar; the paid tier adds a shortlist with application stages. The complete guide to charity grants covers how to decide which rounds belong on that calendar in the first place.
Frequently asked questions
- How many UK grants close this month?
- On 26 October 2026 OpenGrant listed 138 schemes with deadlines in October 2026, 121 in November 2026 and 65 in December 2026. Of the 134 closing within 30 days, 78 were open to charities and community groups and 32 to small businesses. The monthly deadline pages update as records are verified, so the count on the day you look will differ.
- Which UK grants close in November 2026?
- Examples on OpenGrant's November 2026 page include Community Foundation Wales's Liverpool Bay CCS Community Benefit Fund on 2 November, the National Lottery Heritage Fund's Nature Networks Fund round six and City Bridge Foundation's Economic Justice programme on 3 November, Innovate UK's FOAK Builder expression of interest on 5 November, the Money and Pensions Service Money Guiders fund on 10 November, Gwent High Sheriff's Community Fund on 16 November and Henry Smith Foundation's Enterprise Gateway expressions of interest on 25 November.
- Is it worth applying for a grant that closes in a week?
- Only if you already meet every criterion, have the documents the funder asks for and can write the application without inventing a project. Check the funder’s requirements and decision timetable before rushing; checks can take weeks. A better use of the week is often a rolling programme with no deadline, where you can apply when ready.
- Can I apply after the deadline has passed?
- Almost never for a dated round; the funder's portal usually closes at the stated time. Many programmes reopen on a cycle, so note the next opening date instead. Rolling programmes such as National Lottery Awards for All England, Garfield Weston Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation have no deadline at all.
- How do I get alerts for grants closing soon?
- Set the filters that describe your organisation on OpenGrant and save a weekly email alert, which is free with an account. NICVA's GrantTracker emails reminders at nine, three and one weeks before deadlines for schemes you track in Northern Ireland. The National Lottery Community Fund newsletter lists new programmes monthly.
