# What is 360Giving data?

**360Giving**: 360Giving is the UK charity that helps grant funders publish the grants they have made as open data in one agreed format, the 360Giving Data Standard. The data is free to reuse and is the evidence base behind tools such as GrantNav and the funder research on OpenGrant.

360Giving is the UK charity that helps grant funders publish the grants they have already made as open data in a common format, the 360Giving Data Standard. Its stated mission is to help people "publish and use open, standardised grants data to improve charitable giving". It is a trading name of Funders Together, registered charity 1116201. On 26 October 2026 its free search tool, GrantNav, held 1,565,468 grants from 355 funders to 458,875 recipient organisations.

**Why it matters when applying.** A funder's published grants show what it funds in practice, which can differ from its stated criteria. The data also shows typical award sizes, how many grants go to small or unregistered groups, and which other funders support organisations like yours. That is the foundation of prospect research, explained in [how to use 360Giving data to find funders](https://opengrant.co.uk/blog/how-to-use-360giving-data-to-find-funders).

**What the Standard requires.** Every 360Giving record carries ten required fields: a grant identifier, title, description, currency, amount awarded, award date, the funding organisation's identifier and name, and the recipient organisation's identifier and name (or a recipient individual's). Organisation identifiers use the [org-id](https://opengrant.co.uk/glossary/org-id) scheme, so a charity appears as GB-CHC- plus its charity number.

**Example.** A fictional youth charity in Bolton wants to know who funds similar work. On GrantNav it searches for "youth" in Greater Manchester, filters by recipient type and amount, and finds the funders that appear most often. On OpenGrant, each of those funders has a facts page showing its 360Giving totals, typical award and recent recipients by type, with a link back to the same funder on GrantNav. [GrantNav vs OpenGrant](https://opengrant.co.uk/blog/grantnav-vs-opengrant) explains how the two fit together.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is 360Giving data free to use?

Yes. Funders publish their grants under open licences, and the data in GrantNav is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International, so you can search, download and reuse it with attribution. 360Giving is run by Funders Together, registered charity 1116201.

### Does 360Giving list grants I can apply for?

No. 360Giving data records grants that have already been awarded, with the funder, recipient, amount and date. It tells you what a funder has done, not what it is offering now. For open programmes and deadlines use the funder's own site or a database of open calls.

### Which funders publish to 360Giving?

GrantNav listed 355 publishing funders on 26 October 2026, including the National Lottery distributors, most large trusts and foundations, many community foundations and some councils. Tens of thousands of smaller trusts on the charity registers publish nothing, so absence from 360Giving does not mean a funder makes no grants.

## Related terms

- [GrantNav](https://opengrant.co.uk/glossary/grantnav): GrantNav is 360Giving's free search tool for grants that UK funders have already awarded and published in the 360Giving Data Standard. You can search by funder, recipient or keyword, filter by year, amount and region, and download the results, all under an open licence.
- [org-id](https://opengrant.co.uk/glossary/org-id): An org-id is a standard way of identifying an organisation in open data: a list code naming the register, then the organisation's number on it, for example GB-CHC-200051 for a registered charity or GB-COH-09506232 for a company. 360Giving uses org-ids for every funder and recipient.
- [Grant-making trust](https://opengrant.co.uk/glossary/grant-making-trust): A grant-making trust is a charity set up to give money to other organisations or individuals rather than to run services itself. Most are registered with a UK charity regulator, file annual accounts, and record in the register that they make grants to organisations.
