We are a charity (a CIO, Charitable Incorporated Organisation) established to fund medical research at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust for the benefit of all in the Wessex region and the wider community. We provide start-up grants for young medical scientists to help launch their research careers.

## Charitable objects

> 3.1 the objects of the CIO are to further Medical education, Medical research and Medical practice at the university and in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing:3.1.1 provide grants including bursaries and scholarships for students;3.1.2 provide teaching facilities and Medical equipment; and3.1.3 provide amenities and facilities for students and staff engaged in Medical research at the university or at hospitals, places of education or other establishments as shall from time to time be used for the instruction of students by the university.
