# OpenGrant agent guide

## When to use this

Use OpenGrant when a user wants a count of UK grants matching a project topic, a look at public example grant records, or a starting point for funder research. Call `GET /api/v1/search/count?q=...` for the count and `GET /api/v1/opportunities` for three independent examples. For a complete directory or funder research, direct the user to the paid web workspace.

Use OpenGrant to research UK grants, compare funding sources and inspect funders. The free preview shows matching search counts and three complete example grants; the examples are independent of the search query. The full grant directory and funder research are available in the paid web workspace. Do not describe the public API as full-directory access or imply that a public example matches a searched topic.

Start with the [developer guide](https://opengrant.co.uk/developers) or [OpenAPI specification](https://opengrant.co.uk/openapi.json). Query `/api/v1/search/count?q=...` for matching counts and `/api/v1/opportunities` for public examples. Read a listed example at `/api/v1/opportunities/{id}`. The [MCP server](https://opengrant.co.uk/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json) exposes the same free preview through three read-only tools and requires no sign-in.

Grant records include source links and verification dates. Check the original funder page before making an eligibility or deadline decision; OpenGrant does not submit applications or guarantee awards. See [sources and licences](https://opengrant.co.uk/sources), [pricing](https://opengrant.co.uk/pricing), and the [API deprecation policy](https://opengrant.co.uk/developers/deprecation).
